Spring Break is Right Around the Corner

I can't wrap my mind around how quickly this semester is going by. Spring break is in a week and I may not have plans but I could really use the break. I'm drowning in school work so I'm definitely looking forward to the free time catching up on some school stuff or you know use that free time for beach time, relaxing, and surfing! Word of advice do not procrastinate!!! I hope you all have an epic spring break!! Go out and try something new, travel to a place you've always wanted to go, or make new relationships with people.

My friend and I hitting up a small swell.

Maybe try out surfing for the first time if you're staying here for spring break (:

Until next time...

It Happens...

I hope everyone's first week back at school was amazing. I have to say this week went by pretty quickly. I was sooooo excited to start this new semester mostly because I felt the winter break was going by too slowly. But I promise I greatly appreciated the break! During break I didn't have to worry about being stuck in traffic after school and not getting enough sun time to surf. I had a full day to surf if I wanted to!

So was it just me or did anyone else get thrown off with starting the semester on Tuesday. I mixed up my schedule thinking it was Monday and went to the wrong campus. But this kind of stuff happens all the time right?! I was at the Downtown campus but realized I was on the wrong campus headed to the wrong class after passing the huge 'Welcome Back' sign for the HPU students. By then I was already 30 minutes late to my Writing class at the Hawai'i Loa campus. I power walked to the shuttle stop in high hopes I could get on the next shuttle to make the last few minutes of class. I just missed it and knew for sure I wouldn't make it to my first class at all. After making it to Hawai'i Loa campus I emailed my professor to let him know why I was not at class. I recommend if this ever happens to any of you, you email your professor. Why? Because communication between a student and professor is really important and trust me professors appreciate when their students let them know this kind of things.

Other then mixing up my days, my week went great! I was so happy I got to reconnect with my friends and make new friends in my new classes. And I actually like the classes I have.

Just remember if anything bad happens to you don't be so negative about it. Be positive and find ways that could make your day better. I hope this never happens to any of you! I wish everyone the best luck for this new semester!

Taking Advantage of Resources

My first semester at HPU is over and second semester is right around the corner! I must say first semester was definitely like a roller coaster ride. On my first day I was not at all prepared. I had gone to the the wrong buildings for classes and showed up to a few of my classes late because of that. While running around like a chicken without a head I ran into a girl apart of HPU CAB and asked her for help and she advised me to download the HPU app, which would help me get around campus. After conquering this semester I realized HPU has so many resources that can help students so much. I recommend students at HPU to really take advantages of the resources HPU provides. The HPU app that students can download is an app where students are able to view a map of the campuses, and students are able to view their grades/courses. But there is so much more to this app than viewing the maps and courses, which is why students should download this app because it has assisted me numerous times. If it hadn’t been for an HPU CAB member I would not have known about this app.

HPU CAB is another resource students should take advantage of. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is a student-run organization that strives to enhance the Hawaii Pacific University student experience through quality entertainment, creative programming, and community involvement. Students can go onto the HPU website and search CAB and the journey begins from there. My first event I attended that CAB planned was a concert at the Hawai’i Loa Campus. The CAB members were able to get Common Kings to play at our school. There was amazing music and free food. Everyone knows nothing can go wrong with free! Even though it poured cats and dogs that night I’d say the event was pretty successful. Other events that took place this semester was the Welcome Week-Movie on the Lawn, MockingJay Premiere, Double Header Soccer Games, Halloween Funfest, Spirit Week, and the Thanksgiving Luncheon. Going to CAB events students are able to really get a feel of the college life at HPU.

What helped me most out this semester was the the University's Computer Center (CC) on the Downtown Campus and the Educational Technology Center (ETC) on the Hawai'i Loa Campus. Students are able to go there before, between, and after classes. The computer labs provide hardware, software, and services free of charge to currently enrolled students taking courses on either of the major campuses. I could work on class projects, class papers, etc. during my free time and it was just so convenient for me. Honestly sometimes I went in there to just hang out. Other good places to go to hang out and relax are Sharky’s Cove and the Sea Warrior Center. I went there to work on school work, chill with my friends, and sometimes taking a quick nap.

So, moral of the story please please please take advantage of the resources that are basically thrown at us. It will really make our lives easier.

Hello

Hi! I'm Kaira-Faye. I'm from Ewa Beach, Hawaii and currently majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management at Hawai'i Pacific University. I plan to graduate in 2018, so I have lots of time to take you on my journey at HPU :). On my free time I enjoy going to the beach, going surfing, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. I have lived in Hawai'i my entire life and have never been out of the state. Since I haven't been out of the state, I am very interested in traveling around the world. One of my goals is to travel abroad to Africa and volunteer at orphan homes. I want to live abroad for awhile as well and HPU's study abroad program may be able to help me accomplish this goal. One day, I also hope to road trip across the entire United States! I've got to run, but stay tuned for more of my blogging adventures...
